What does 'kepo' stand for? kinetic energy paper oddities

?? Kinetic energy is what makes a pop up mechanism work. As you open a card, the front and back covers move apart from each other, creating a sort of kinetic energy in the unfolding process. There are all sorts of fun things you can do with that energy, using only paper, and the results are what we like to call paper oddities. Pop up cards are just one example.

Are 'kepo' cards okay to send in the mail? Yes. They may look more delicate than an ordinary card, but they don't require any special treatment when it comes to mailing them. Of course, there is always a chance that things can happen in the mail, so delivering a card in person is sometimes best on special occasions.

Do they require extra postage? No. Sometimes specialty cards are heavier than others, on account of all the paper and glue inside. All the cards in our shop have been weighed to make sure that they fall within the limits of standard mail.

Where can I purchase 'kepo' cards? In our online shop

Why don't you use glue? There are many reasons. First of all, we like to keep the cards as light as possible, so that you don't have to pay extra postage. And by eliminating glue, we can ensure that your cards will be cherished forever, without falling apart, or sticking together over time. On our end, we eliminate the mess and smells involved with gluing in the production process, which makes the cards a lot more fun to make.

How do the cards stay together if you don't use glue? Paper is quite a good construction material, even when used on its own. We use a combination of paper techniques, ranging from the more artistic or traditional such as origami, kirigami and origamic architecture; to the more functional techniques used in packaging and book design.

What type of paper do you use? The cards in our shop are printed on two kinds of paper. Each cover is made from Cougar 80lb text (10% recycled), and the inserts are Mohawk Via Smooth 100% PC Cool white, made with wind generated electricity. Both papers are FSC approved.

What sort of custom work do you do? We can design custom promotional material, cards, and invitations for special events, mail-outs, or company cards. We are not designing individual cards, or small personal orders at this time, unfortunately.

Do you have wedding invitations? We will be releasing a catalogue of wedding invitations this December, and begin making reservations at that time for weddings taking place in summer of 2010 or later.
